Happy New Year, friends! Two weeks into the year isn’t too late to say that, right? Today I’m sharing a recipe that was many months in the making: my recipe for bang bang shrimp tacos! If you haven’t heard of bang bang shrimp, it’s essentially a decadent appetizer consisting of fried shrimp slathered in a delicious creamy sauce.
I had bang bang shrimp for the first time at Bonefish Grill a few years ago and it was delicious, but fried food doesn’t sit with me particularly well. Needless to say, when I came across a lightened up bang bang shrimp recipe last year, I was ecstatic. It was great, but still a little heavy on the creaminess for my taste, so I spent the next few months perfecting my recipe (and turning it into tacos, because tacos are the best). After countless test runs, I think I’ve finally gotten it right. This Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos recipe is simple, delicious, and takes just 10 minutes. Try it out for yourself and let me know what you think!

Ingredients
1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
3 TBSP light mayonnaise
4 TBSP sweet chili sauce
1 tsp sriracha
1 tsp vegetable oil
2 tsp cornstarch
6 white corn tortillas
Shredded lettuce and avocado slices, for topping
Directions
- Start by making the bang ban sauce. In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, and sriracha until smooth.
- Next you’ll prepare the shrimp. In a medium bowl, combine the shrimp and cornstarch until the shrimp is completely coated.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the shrimp to the pan and cook until pink, about 2 minutes on each side.
- While the shrimp cooks, heat your tortillas. One at a time, place each tortilla in a clean pan over medium heat. Heat for 30 seconds, then flip and heat the other side. Place the warmed tortillas in a tortilla warmer or on a plate covered with a dish towel.
- Remove shrimp from the skillet and add to the bowl of sauce, Mix well until shrimp is evenly coated.
- Assemble your tacos by placing a scoop of shrimp in each tortilla. Top with shredded lettuce and avocado slices. Enjoy!
